In order to protect the Hiberband Via from lightning strikes, it is recommended to ground the system. Especially if the LoRa antenna or BGAN terminal are placed higher than surrounding objects.
Grounding the LoRa antenna:*
- Place the Lighting protection A09 on the gateway connector A15.
- Connect the LoRa antenna cable A07 to the Lightening protection A09.
- Use a grounding cable (not provided) to an electrical earth connection. If an electrical earth connection isn’t available, connect to a large conducting surface like a metal beam, connected to the earth.
Grounding the BGAN terminal:**
- Attach the grounding cable D05 to the ground connector on the back of the BGAN terminal C01. The ground connector is indicated with the following ground symbol:
- The other end of the grounding cable needs to be connected to an electrical earth connection. If an electrical earth connection isn’t available, connect to a large conducting surface like a metal beam, connected to the earth.
It is possible gound the BGAN terminal and LoRa antenna to the same ground connection.
